Though we have a free will - and God does not want a bunch of robots obeying him, this book asserts that God delights in people who choose of their own free will to follow His will for them. Our plans are nice, but God's plans are better. When we put God's Will above our own, we are supporting God's best intentions for us and the world. We were all created for a purpose and God does have a wish or plan for us. It's up to us to seek it. This book proffers a logical, compelling and cogent argument for conforming our will to God's will. Whenever I now say the Lord's Prayer, I pause when I say "Thy will be done..." for emphasis since I now understand how important God's will is. Excellent way to be in God's friendship. I only know what helps me and I think it's a wonderful way to get back to what it means to be in the church. To be Catholic. The Deposit of Faith as Jack Sky described it.
Whenever I want anyone to start reading St. Alphonsus Liguori, I get them to read this book because it’s arguably his best and is a lot less difficult than his heavier works about souls being lost. Such a beautiful work that I would recommend to anybody wanting to grow closer to God. Please read it. It may very well change your perspective of how you act in your daily life in order to unify rather than even conform your will to that of God.
I also have read this a couple of times and plan to read it again. St. Alphonsus guides us through the thinking of the Saints who faced adversity and how they relied so totally on God's perfect wisdom that directs all our ways, as Scripture says, that whatever happened to them, they were at peace and even joyful. This is a book that would be a wonderful gift to someone going through a great challenge, such as a life threatoning or painful disease like cancer, loss of a loved one, or divorce. It is very short. Actually, it is more a booklet than a book. Easy reading. Immediately helpful.

This short treatis shows most convincingly that advanced degrees in theology are not necessary for salvation. Uniformity with God's will is the roadmap from earth to heaven with the fewest roadblocks. This GEM of a book should be required reading for all Christians seeking conviction in their faith. You will read it over and over.
A priest recommended this book, so I bought it. This book may be small, but its content is not. I read this book a little at a time to let everything soak in. Saint Alphonsus writes with such beautiful simplicity.
In short, this book tells you that everything is God's will. Day by day we should accept all things that come our way as God's will. There are several bible verse quoted to help inspire. He also gives several scenarios to help the reader to better understand. When trying to live this out I feel more at peace.
I would also recommend St. Alphonsus', "Glories of Mary".
Great spiritual guidance that focuses on the importance of doing God's will as a path toward salvation and union with God. When we do God's will we are free and we are also reassured that Divine Providence has the best plan for our lives. Saint Alfonsus Liguori is a gentle soul who understands human nature and yet encourages souls to transcend the obstacles that prevent spiritual advancement.
